Claiming a venue

A claimed venue gets a real owner (or a small team of owners + managers), a venue detail page you can edit, and the option to point your own domain at it. Most venues on Swirl are unclaimed — anyone can post events at any venue regardless. Claiming is for the venues you actually run.

When to claim

  • You operate the space — booking, programming, day-of-show stuff.
  • You’re staff or a regular at a venue and the venue owner is fine with you managing its Swirl presence.
  • You’re consolidating: your venue has lots of events on Swirl already and you want one canonical page you control.

How to claim

  1. Open /manage/venues/ from the host workspace sidebar.
  2. Click Claim a venue.
  3. Search by name or city. Pick your venue from the results.
  4. Choose your relationship — owner / operator / staff / representative.
  5. Write a sentence or two so we can verify you’re connected to the place.
  6. Submit.

Your request goes to the Swirl team (and, if the venue already has owners, to them too) for review. You’ll get an email when there’s a decision — usually within a day. We review every claim instead of auto-approving so a venue’s real operator can’t be locked out by a faster random claimant.

Roles

Once you’re on a venue, three roles exist:

RoleCan do
OwnerEverything: edit details, add custom domains, add/remove managers, transfer ownership.
ManagerEdit details, add custom domains, manage day-to-day. Cannot remove owners.
EditorEdit venue details only.

Owners add other people by email — they have to be signed-in Swirl users first. The “Members” section on the venue detail page is where you do this.

What claimed venues unlock

  • Custom domain — see Custom domains for the full walkthrough.
  • A canonical detail page at /venues/<slug>/ that you control.
  • Future: bulk event tools, venue-level series, embeddable calendar. Not shipped yet; on the roadmap.

A couple of edge cases

  • The venue isn’t in Swirl yet. Venues appear in the catalog once at least one event has been posted at them. Post the event first; the venue then becomes claimable.
  • A wrong claim got approved. Email events@swirl.events and we’ll fix it. Admins can revoke and re-assign roles.
  • You don’t see your venue in /manage/venues/. Either you haven’t claimed it yet, or your claim is still pending. The pending list shows below the verified list.
